Amber Fort is located between Delhi Highway and Pink City Jaipur. If you're travelling from Delhi, you can visit the fort without entering Jaipur city.
By Air: Jaipur International Airport (JAI) is the nearest airport to Amber Fort. You can take a direct or connecting flight to Jaipur. The fort is approximately 20 kilometres from the airport, and you can reach it by using public transport (city low-floor AC buses) or hiring a private cab.
By Train: Jaipur Junction (JP) is the main railway station to reach Amber Fort. The fort is about 14 kilometres from Jaipur Junction, and you can get there by using readily available public transport or hiring a private taxi.
By Road: Amber Fort is only 3 kilometres away from the old Delhi-Jaipur highway. You can drive your own vehicle or use public transport. Sindhi Camp, the main bus stand, is around 12 kilometres away.
Note: Ola and Uber cabs offer service in Jaipur city, and you can book one to reach Amber Fort or the nearest location, such as a hotel.
Tip: If you're travelling from Delhi by public transport, ask the bus operator to drop you off at Kunda crossroad. From Kunda stand, Amber Fort is only about 2.5 kilometres away and has excellent road connectivity.
Amber Fort: The magnificent fort is the main attraction of the location. Whether it's Maota Sarovar, Bagh, or Kesar Kyari Garden, they all enhance the overall view of the fort. At night, the colourful illuminations cast upon the fort give it a remarkably grand appearance.
The Diwan-e-Aam (Hall of Public Audience) and Diwan-e-Khas (Hall of Private Audience) were used by the Maharajas for meetings and court proceedings. The fort also houses the Shila Mata Temple, a Hindu temple dedicated to Goddess Durga.
Light and Sound Show: It is organised outside the fort near Kesar Kyari. The stories related to the fort and the Rajput Kingdom are presented in a very interesting way through the sound and light show. It is an excellent show to enjoy after or before dinner. The timing of the show is different in summer and winter. The good thing is that the show is presented in both languages, Hindi and English.
Nahargarh: Behind Amber Fort, the Aravalli Hills are home to many wild animals, including leopards. Locally, leopards or tigers are called "Nahar," which is why the fort is named Nahargarh. Built by Raja Sawai Jai Singh II in 1734, Nahargarh Fort offers stunning views of Jal Mahal and the Aravalli range on one side and a panoramic view of Jaipur city on the other.
To reach Nahargarh Fort, you can hire a private taxi or use your rental vehicle. You can also experience various popular wax genres in the wax museum at Nahargarh.
Jaigarh: In addition to Amber and Nahargarh Forts, Jaigarh Fort is another significant fort in the area. Built as a defensive network by the Jaipur state, Jaigarh Fort is home to the world's largest cannon and features many corridors and armouries.
From the back of the fort, you can enjoy a beautiful view of Sagar Lake and the Aravalli Hills. The roads to Nahargarh and Jaigarh Forts pass through the valleys leading to Amber. Public transport is not available to these forts, so you will need your own vehicle or a rental.
Shri Jagat Shiromani Temple: This temple holds special significance for devotees of Lord Krishna and Meera Bai. It's considered unique as it's one of the very few temples where idols of both Krishna and Meera Bai are worshipped together.
Constructed between 1599 and 1608 AD, the Shri Jagat Shiromani Temple was built by Queen Kanakwati, wife of King Man Singh I, in memory of their son, Jagat Singh, who passed away at a young age.
Surya (Sun) Temple: The Sun temple is dedicated to Surya. It holds significance for devotees seeking blessings from Surya for good health and positive energy in life. The exact date of construction isn't clear; however, locals have been visiting and worshipping the idol for centuries. This temple is open on Makar Sankranti (January 14) every year for one day only.
Shri Narsingh Devji Temple: This temple is also called the old Amer Palace. The temple is dedicated to the Narasimha Avatar of Lord Vishnu. The temple is located in the old haveli where the popular Rajput Princess Jodha Bai was born. Tourists are not allowed to visit the haveli; however, they can visit the sacred temple.
Panna Meena Ka Kund: This is the eight-story stewardess located on the route to Sagar from Amer Stand. The stepwell was used as a water resource for the entire settlement, and it was created by the Meena rulers of the area in the 11th century AD. Before the 16th century, Rajput kings defeated the Meenas and established their supremacy over this region. The stepwell was named after a man named Panna Meena, who died fighting bravely.
Sagar: This beautiful lake is located exactly behind the Amer and Jaigarh Forts. The lake is around 1 kilometre from the Amer Fort, and you can reach it by walking or hiring a private taxi. However, it is not recommended to visit the area without a taxi or auto rickshaw.
