Vijay Nagar in Arunachal is considered one of the easternmost village in India, primarily due to its lack of connectivity and transportation facilities. Vijaynagar is a collection of 12 small villages situated near the Noa Dihing River in Arunachal Pradesh.
Located in the Changlang district of Arunachal Pradesh, beyond the Namdapha National Park and Tiger Reserve, Vijaynagar is a small hamlet bordered on three sides by Myanmar. It is a 25 km wide and 50 km long area that lies along the Myanmar border but is an integral part of India.
After the 1962 war with China, the Indian government decided to secure the border with Myanmar, leading to the establishment of Vijaynagar. The region is mainly inhabited by the Lisu tribe, as well as in Gandhigram, located about 20 km north.

Vijaynagar is essentially a large meadow (bugyal) located between the Himalayan range in Arunachal. Given that it is surrounded by Myanmar on three sides, Vijaynagar is considered a sensitive area for maintaining India's territorial integrity and border security.
The main source of livelihood in Vijaynagar is cardamom farming. The locals grow cardamom around their homes, which is transported to Miao for further supply.
As of 2023, there was no road access to Vijaynagar, meaning it could only be reached by a 5-day trek. However, by 2024, a road through Namdapha National Park is under construction to connect Vijaynagar.

Vijayanagar is located approximately 155 kilometres from Miao, and road construction is currently underway. By 2025, a well-connected road is expected to be completed, passing through Namdapha National Park and Gandhigram.
At present, there is no public transport available to reach Vijayanagar in Arunachal Pradesh. However, if you're up for an adventure, you can opt for a bike ride, which may take almost a full day. Driving cars, including 4x4 vehicles, is not recommended as the terrain is unsuitable for such vehicles.

Vijoynagar: The small town will be the last stop of your journey, an excellent offbeat in Arunachal travel. The town is very close to the Myanmar border. Families of Gurkha Battalions live in the valley with peace and honour. They're always excited to see people from other parts of the nation.
The village is located in the valley near the Noa Dihing river. The Himalayan mountains are surrounded by the valley where the town is situated on vast meadows. The town offers you tranquil space to relax and disconnect with the rest of the world.
Two-hut: It's a small settlement of Gorkha people beyond the Noa Dihing river. You cross the river using a hanging bridge to reach Two- Hut. Once there were only two huts of local people; thus, the place was called by two huts. A football ground and a Hindu temple enhance the charm of this meadowy location.
Noa Dihing River: The river flows only a few metres away from the main town. The crystal-clear water is so pure that you can drink it without any filtration. People of nearby villages go fishing in the river where the water has a slight depth. The river originates from somewhere in the middle of the forest; thus, it is not a glacial river. However, the water is cold enough to energise you and give you goosebumps.
Namdapha National Park: This national park is one of the largest national parks in India, located near the Myanmar border. The park is home to a wide range of flora and fauna, including rare and endangered species like the red panda, snow leopard, clouded leopard, and binturong. You need to get permissions from National Park authorities, and safaris are not allowed in this national park.
Mugafi Peak: The Mugafi peak is a part of the 5-Passes Trek in Arunachal Pradesh. The overall length of the trek is 40 kilometres, and you may take 3-4 days to reach the peak and back to Vijaynagar. The alpine meadows, serene landscapes, fauna, and flora during the trek are amazing.
Feel the Remoteness of Vijaynagar
Surrounded by Myanmar on three sides, Vijaynagar is so remote that there is no public transport available to reach here. Apart from BSNL, no other mobile network works here, and there is no internet service. Electricity is supplied through large solar panels installed in the area.
